 June 28, 2025 / 7.30 pm Moritz Ostruschnjak CARDBOARD SESSIONS Pinakothek der Moderne The artwork is the dancers themselves and the moves they will be bringing with them. There will be a lot of freestyle, because that's how urban dance works. The completely controlled, staged thing won't work here, otherwise the freedom, the vibe, the groove will be lost. (Moritz Ostruschnjak) In CARDBOARD SESSIONS a group of dancers from different generations and styles take over the spaces of the Pinakothek der Moderne with their moves – invasively, spontaneously, unstoppably. People once danced on cardboard boxes in the streets of New York. Now dancers bring this relic of the street into the museum. The ephemeral, the raw, the transient breaks into the space of high culture - and transforms it: stairs become platforms, hallways turn into playgrounds, and rooms transform into stages. A jam in the museum that takes possession of the space, overwriting its use. A happening that invites the audience to change their perspective, blurring the lines between art and everyday life: At times hanging out, at times dancing, until everyone comes together in the rotunda of the Pinakothek at the end. A cypher for dancers and spectators alike, in which boundaries dissolve and everyone can dance along. A community, an invasion of the moment, a touch of utopia. CARDBOARD SESSIONS is not a performance. It is a state of beeing, a community. Its power is generated by the dancers and their circle of friends and supporters. Moritz Ostruschnjak, himself part of the graffiti and breakin’ scene in the 1990s, collaborates for this project with local urban dance crews, including the Sankofa crew around Serhat ‘Saïd’ Perhat. But also with the contemporary dancers of his ensemble, including the urban dancer Dhélé Agbetou, who has already danced in Ostruschnjak's production YESTER:NOW.
