 July 16, 2025 / 6.30 pm Showing at the end of the residency Smadar Goshen: Body that (still) stands Tanztendenz During her artist residency in Tanztendenz, the Stuttgart based choreographer Smadar Goshen will revisit her recent work "Body that Stands" that delves into the concept of resistance, particularly through the lens of resilience. Throughout piece, the three performers engage in simple acts of physical resistance — not only toward one another but also in relation to the space itself. Set against a scenography of hundreds of wooden bricks, they move through a continuous loop of destruction and construction. In the shifting landscape, images surface — fragments that echo ruins, combat, and aftermaths — evoking scenes that inevitably recall wars and conflicts, making the work resonate with the tensions of our present time. "Body that Stands" observes acts of resistance and its consequences, not only between individuals but also between people and where they stand. "Body that (still) Stands" practices the act reenacting - a fundamental aspect of any piece revival — with a sensitivity to the present moment, to a reality shaped by rapidly shifting conditions and knowledge acquired day by day. Revisiting material once concluded and now reshaping it becomes, in the context of this residency, an act of prayer: for change, for evolution, for the possibility of a horizon. SMADAR GOSHEN is a dance maker, a performer and a trainer. She completed her Bachelors degree in dance and her Masters degree in choreography at the Jerusalem Academy for Music and Dance (JAMD). Born in Israel, she had shifted her professional base to Stuttgart since 2019. Smadar is a certified Gaga teacher as well as GYROTONIC & GYROKINESIS® Trainer and Pre-Trainer. Her extensive knowledge about the moving body is an important part of her work with both, professional and non-professional movers. In the current yearbook of the magazine tanz, Smadar Goshen was honored as one of the 10 most promising dance pioneers. In the 2024/25 season, she is part of the residency programme of the Réseau GRAND LUXE network with special support from the Theater Freiburg’s dance department. Smadar Goshen has received a three-year conceptual grant from the City of Stuttgart and the Landesverband Freie Tanz- und Theaterschaffende Baden Württemberg e.V. with funds from the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts of the State of Baden‑Württemberg for her artistic work from 2024 to 2026. smadargoshen.com VENUE Tanztendenz München e.V. | Lindwurmstr. 88 / 5.
