TANZTENDENZ

HISTORY OF TANZTENDENZ – HOW IT ALL BEGAN

Tanztendenz, founded in 1987, was the first production collective for contemporary dance in Germany.

It emerged from the “Tanztage” (Dance Days) in 1985/86 and was established by Munich-based choreographers Jessica Iwanson, Angelika Meindl, Micha Purucker, Birgitta Trommler and Bonger Voges.

The aim was to improve production conditions for the independent dance scene by pooling financial and organisational resources. This has enabled more efficient use of funds and stronger municipal support.

Tanztendenz has its own rehearsal rooms in the attic of the Lindwurmhof, an old Art Nouveau warehouse, where it offers independent choreographers space and structure for their artistic work.

The first managing director, Walter Heun, and Stefan Sixt were instrumental in its development.
