SCHWERE REITER
A WORKSHOP VENUE
schwere reiter is located in the heart of the creative quarter – the dance stage of the independent scene, not only in Munich, but throughout Bavaria.
Founded in 2008 by Tanztendenz München e.V., PATHOS München e.V. and Kunstbahnsteig (who were responsible for the music section at the time), the production and performance venue is now run by Tanztendenz München e.V., PATHOS München e.V. and scope – Spielraum für aktuelle Musik, with support from the Department of Culture of the City of Munich.
These institutions are all independently and equally responsible for their own programmes in the fields of dance, theatre and contemporary music. What connects them all is a shared interest in artistic freedom.
For us at Tanztendenz, schwere reiter is primarily a space where artists can design and realise projects, create spaces and showcase current productions, all under professional conditions and on fair terms. With its extraordinary architecture, somewhere between a theatre and a hall, schwerer reiter offers a wide range of possibilities: stage productions, promenade performances, installations, exhibitions and much more.
The premises encourage experimentation and allow for longer rehearsal times in the original stage setting. The foyer, studio and hall can all be used for performances.
Tanztendenz created the STANDPUNKT.e – welcome to my world series and the guest performance format side.kicks specifically for this productive performance and experimentation space.
The numerous national and international collaborations – including festivals such as SPIELART, DANCE, Münchener Biennale, RODEO, TANZWERKSTATT EUROPA, aDevantgarde-Festival and Rampenlichter, highlight the significance of schwere reiter as a cultural venue in Munich.
