Botis Seva I Far From The Norm: Until We Sleep
“Botis Seva, the most influential artist in contemporary dance today, is a phenomenal artist of unlimited emotional intelligence, innovative, demanding and exhausting physicality, but also unparalleled hard work that inspires the modern generations of dancers and choreographers.” National Herald – Greece
Until We Sleep, the latest hip-hop dance piece by the renowned London-based choreographer Botis Seva, is a sombre, atmospheric journey through resistance, transformation and survival. Against a backdrop of authoritarian power, a solitary nomad searches for faith as he guides a restless community through shifting timelines.
With Seva’s characteristic blend of hip-hop physicality and free movement, the dancers of “Far From The Norm” navigate a world defined by struggle and resilience. Driven by a haunting soundscape of percussion and guttural textures, the choreography pulsates with a sense of urgency. In their feather- and scale-adorned costumes, they resemble warriors shedding their former identities, whilst glaring light transforms the stage into an unstable arena – an arena in which a higher power looms, relentless and divine.
Until We Sleep explores the tension between hope and responsibility and asks what we cling to in order to carry on. Visceral and poetic, it is a powerful evocation of the human spirit’s struggle to stay awake in a world that seeks to force it to sleep.
The show is not suitable for children under 12 as it contains scenes of violence. It also features strobe lighting and loud music.
