CCN / Aterballetto: RHAPSODY IN BLUE / AN ECHO, A WAVE / RECONCILIATIO / SOLO ECHO
Thanks to its powerful presence, sensitivity and technical skill, Aterballetto is Italy’s finest contemporary dance company. The ensemble is bringing four pieces to DanceFirst: Iratxe Ansa and Igor Bacovich take a playful approach to George Gershwin’s famous “Rhapsody in Blue”. “The music is so energetic and lively, […] it transports us to a space where anything is possible,” say the choreographers.
Philippe Kratz’s "Echo, a Wave" conveys the sense of wonder evoked by the sight of the endless sea: the dancers’ flowing movements are reminiscent of waves, but also of the shifting between different states of mind.
Reconciliatio is a female pas de deux by Angelin Preljocaj, inspired by a careful but not literal interpretation of the Book of Revelation.
In "Solo Echo" – inspired by two Brahms sonatas and Mark Strand’s poem “Lines for Winter” – the multi-award-winning Canadian choreographer Crystal Pite masterfully explores ways of expressing love, loss and acceptance.
