Public laboratory intervention by CHAKKARs – Moving Interventions as part of the International Weeks against Racism 2026

Magical Visions | Decolonizing Turns is a public laboratory intervention that focuses less on analytical critique than on designing decolonizing counterpoints through performed "magical visions". Seven BIPoC artists from the CHAKKARs network meet in an internal, non-public laboratory to develop short performative interventions. These will be presented to the public for the first time on Sunday, 22.03.2026.

The artistic works tie in with the network and archives that CHAKKARs has been continuously building up and maintaining since 2019. The focus is on the question of how dance, body and movement can become spaces in which new images, narratives and futures emerge. Instead of explanatory discourse, the focus is on poetic, sensual and visionary moments that invite us to dream, reflect and imagine together.

The invited artists develop short interventions that make utopias tangible through performance and leave fear, violence, discrimination and racism behind for a moment. The performances focus on reduction and concentration on the essentials: Body, movement and presence. This creates - temporarily - a paradisiacal space in which toxic exclusion is abolished and bodies, movement and collective imagination are celebrated.

Magical Visions | Decolonizing Turns is an invitation to develop visions together and try out alternative forms of togetherness.
