Immerse yourself in a dynamic workshop that uses partner work and contact improvisation as a creative field of exploration. This is about more than just movement: it’s about listening, responding and the subtle interplay of bodies in space. Through touch, weight, proximity and awareness, you’ll develop practical tools that will noticeably deepen your work in solo, duet and ensemble settings.
Clear structures and physical impulses will open up new ways for you to let movement emerge from contact and relationship. You’ll learn to gather information whilst dancing together and to integrate it immediately into your own practice – alert, present and responsive.
This workshop is a dynamic space for experience, shaped by artistic practice and inspired by the work of leading movement researchers such as Steve Paxton and Lisa Nelson. With curiosity, a sense of playfulness and an open mind to what emerges in the moment, you will explore the diversity of physical communication.
Ideal for anyone wishing to sharpen their perception, deepen their collaboration with others and expand their movement practice through direct, physical experience.
Charlie Morrissey is a performer, teacher and director who has been working with movement for over 35 years. His practice is influenced and inspired by collaborations with artists such as Steve Paxton, Lisa Nelson, Scott Smith, K. J. Holmes, Kirstie Simson, Karen Nelson, Siobhan Davies, Katye Coe, Andrea Buckley, Becky Edmunds and many others.
