This year marks the 11th edition of “HIER=JETZT”, the platform for contemporary dance. The “Artist for Artist” initiative, which was created from scratch in 2016 by Birgitta Trommler and Johanna Richter, is now the leading platform for supporting emerging young choreographers and dancers in Munich – and a format that is unique in Germany!

To our great regret, following the unexpected death of Birgitta Trommler, this year’s edition will be a very special one. We dedicate this year’s HIER=JETZT to this artist, who was instrumental in the platform’s creation and in nurturing the next generation of the independent dance scene in Munich. We will carry her passion for working with young talent and her tireless commitment to the platform with us into the future.

At the opening of ‘HIER = JETZT’ 2026 on Friday, 10 April 2026 at 8 p.m., the winners of the audience award from the last platform, Alonso Núñes Quirós (Costa Rica) and Dalila di Gennaro (Italy), will be presented. With their piece ‘narrative of an echo,’ they won the prize along with a working scholarship, which enabled them to deepen and expand their work and add a new chapter to it.

In a moderated discussion format, the opening night first provides insights into the concept of the piece and the working methods of the choreography team. Then, with the background knowledge gained about the idea behind the work, the piece can be seen in its further developed form on stage.

The piece ‘narrative of an echo’ was created as a duet, inspired by the paradox of Theseus' ship: if all the parts of a body are gradually replaced, can one still speak of the same body? The work explores identity as a dynamic and evolving construct in which transformation and continuity exist simultaneously.

After winning the audience award at the ‘HIER = JETZT’ Festival 2025 in Munich, Alonso Núñez Quirós and Dalila di Gennaro return to open the festival with a longer, further developed version of the piece. With the support of the prize, this new version deepens the choreographic and dramaturgical research, expands the physical language and refines the conceptual framework of the piece.

Through a multi-layered and embodied approach, narrative of an echo explores processes of change, memory and self-perception over time, offering audiences a compelling reflection on how identity is shaped by ongoing transformation.
