Léonard Engel: CARCASSE
How do we carry on when abhorrence seems set to triumph? When democracy is crumbling? When political hypocrisy is rife? When everything we once held sacred is being desecrated and shattered? When every emotion, every everyday gesture is clouded by revulsion?
In Carcasse, five performers confront the remnants of their existence. They inhabit a body whose structure is irrevocably scarred – a skeleton, a carcass, in which revulsion and powerlessness dictate every movement. How can this body be made to dance? Oscillating between gentleness and rage, paralysis and ecstasy, they paint a picture of a bleak present and an uncertain future.
