Micha Purucker: habermas disco
World premiere: January 9, 2026, 8 pm, schwere reiter
“habermas disco” is a choreographic jam session that plays with an incredible local coincidence from Munich in the late seventies, when Habermas was advancing critical social theory in Starnberg and researching his influential theory of communicative action, while Giorgio Moroder was working with Donna Summer on “I Feel Love” and the Munich Sound at Musicland Studios in Arabellapark. The current disillusionment regarding many questions and problems meets songs from an era characterized by a belief in societal awakening and in the possibility of a fair and just coexistence. The disco as an egalitarian space for burgeoning hedonism.
Today, we sit disillusioned amidst the ruins of that bygone awakening. The euphoria has vanished, but the questions and the rhythm remain.
