Peter Šavel & collective: WHAT THE FOLK
We live in a time full of tension and division. But is there something we all carry within us? Something that connects us? Movement – natural, human. I’m waiting at the bus stop or at the doctor’s, shifting my weight from one leg to the other. A step here, a step there – a rhythm emerges, a dance. So human… so folkloric? WHAT THE FOLK – what’s the state of folk dance? Together with you, we’d like to explore how a dance comes into being. How it emerges as a connection between us. How it grows from the simplest steps, from the natural need to move, and gradually becomes more expressive.
What might our folk dance look like today? Does it have to be folkloric, modern, contemporary, or simply human…? Perhaps all these forms are closer to one another than we think. Will our dance be exclusively Slovak, or will it also remind us of dances from other parts of the world? Join us in this intriguing exploration!
