Stefan Maria Marb: Butoh
Regular classes cover both traditional Japanese Butoh elements and our own contemporary approaches. In addition to developing expressiveness, the teaching focuses on the improvisational nature of the dance. Each session consists of an intensive warm-up followed by a creative section. The following elements are taught: Facebutoh, breath and dance, isolation exercises, floor work, slow walk and floating, metamorphosis (animal, plant), as well as theme-based improvisation. Stefan Maria Marb studied Butoh with the leading Japanese practitioners (Kazuo Ohno, Ko Murobushi, Yoshito Ohno, Carlotta Ikeda, and Min Tanaka) and has been deeply engaged with this experimental dance form for over 35 years. Since 1997, he has been teaching Butoh regularly at Tanztendenz in Munich. At the annual Butoh workshop, he stages experimental performances with his students.
