IN SOLIDARITY AND VISIBLE

Tanztendenz is a co-initiator of TanzPulsSüd, a growing network of dance initiatives in southern Germany. Since 2022, TanzPulsSüd has been working to improve working conditions for freelance dance professionals. The network also aims to create structural conditions that facilitate sustainable artistic exchange and strengthen the position of contemporary dance in southern Germany.

The 4exchange+ residency programme, developed within this framework, has become an important platform for participating cultural institutions and dance professionals.

The focus is on artistic exchange across regional borders. Six residencies, each lasting between seven and ten days, enable guest artists to work in one of the partner cities, alongside workshops, training sessions, showings and lecture demonstrations.
4exchange+ is complemented by conferences and symposia that address current issues in the independent dance scene, making knowledge accessible within peer groups.

With funding secured for 2025 and 2026, the Süd network has helped 21 dance productions get off to a successful start. The network's organisational work promotes important synergies, increases visibility, and enhances the appeal of dance art beyond the borders of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg.

Residency for “How to Build a Monster?” – October 12–20, 2026, at Tanztendenz Munich

The residency explores methods and physical approaches that make the “monstrous knowledge” inscribed in our bodies visible and tangible. What figures, stories, and experiences have manifested themselves within it? What images from fairy tales, film history, and myths—as well as from current events, digital networks, and technologies—seep into our bodies—and how do they shape our bodies, behavior, and perception?

Bodies encounter objects, materials, and projections. They are deformed, expanded, and mirrored. Costumes, skin, fur, and technical apparatus shift perceptions and hierarchies. What archaic gestures, hybrid states, instinctive affects, and animalistic impulses do we encounter in the process? Can we ourselves become monsters to others—or to ourselves?

Showcase: Saturday, October 17, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. at Tanztendenz Munich

Tanztendenz is a member of TanzPulsSüd, the supraregional alliance of independent dance scene institutions in Munich, Nuremberg, Mannheim, Freiburg, Stuttgart, and Bamberg.

4exchange+ is made possible by the Bavarian State Association for Contemporary Dance (BLZT), which receives funding from the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts.
