DOK.fest goes schwere reiter
On November 16, two short films will be screened that explore the search for identity and the loss of identity in different ways. The films focus on walking—as well as the experience of no longer being able to do so. The screening will be followed by a discussion with Judith Hummel.
SO IST DAS LEBEN UND NICHT ANDERS.
Mrs. Miko lives right next door. She’s old—very old—maybe even a hundred—but who can really say? Because Mrs. Miko forgets things. And that’s exactly what prompts the director and animator to reflect on her own aging: What if we lose our memories—what will we have left? Animated films have always been a wonderful medium for exploring the big philosophical questions. And so this short, utterly masterfully crafted film gently takes us on a journey of the mind. Pure cinematic magic. – Jan Sebening

ÖSTERREICH IM NIEMANDSLAND – WO KOMME ICH HER?
The short film focuses on Margret, a mother who, during the final leg of her journey through Austria, is asked questions by her daughter Judith—questions about herself. As she walks, she reflects on her family background, her relationship with her own mother and daughter, and where she stands today—at a time when her own parents are dying and she has taken on the responsibility of caring for her mother. She loves, she struggles, she gives, she laughs, she doubts, she opens up—everything that defines relationships. The film is a portrait of a relationship, a mother-daughter portrait.
